How long will it take to see results?
A variety of factors do influence therapeutic effectiveness, though most often individuals report feeling and seeing improvement after the first session. Dr. Gober makes every attempt to begin to arm patients with more effective strategies to meet their concerns from their first meeting.
How long does therapy last?
Some presenting problems may require only a few sessions to obtain desired results, while others may take months or years. Most importantly in determining the length of therapy is the collaboration on therapeutic goals. Dr. Gober's aim is to help each person identify his/her targets for change and work diligently toward them until they are able to maintain their gains independently over time.
How frequently do we meet?
Therapy sessions usually begin with a frequency of once a week and that frequency tends to be maintained for some time. When individuals become more adept at utilizing the strategies that they have learned and feel more comfortable meeting challenges independently, sessions become less frequent.
Does my child go to therapy alone or with me?
Most initial sessions where children are the identified patient begin with the parents. Dr. Gober will discuss with parents their challenges and goals for change and collaborate on a therapeutic plan. Depending on individual needs and goals, the frequency with which Dr. Gober will meet with children alone, parents alone, or children and parent(s) together, will vary. Parental involvement is always essential to therapeutic intervention.
